the july 6 potluck

july 6 turned out to be a very hot day... which i hope is the reason the first potluck ended up totaling only 7 people! at any rate, we got our feet wet learning some of the ins and outs of public potlucks. ideas/things to consider for the future:

1) access to a bathroom - lack of this can make social interactions difficult!
2) activities or games - sometimes food and chatting needs something to break it up a bit
3) better "advertising" - we lost some people through forgetting about our internet communication sources. also, maybe we need a flag to mark our spot in the park?
4) airtight containers are very handy as not just your salad/dish container but also as your "plate"

most of us knew each other already, but we did get a craigslist attendee with ties to the u of m compassionate action for animals. hooray! we like new people. also, we ate some delicious food:

clockwise from top left: sesame-peanut noodle salad, black bean and avocado salsa, fresh fruit salad, cilantro-miso soba noodles with tofu

august is likely to be hotter than july, so we'll hopefully plan one for a cooler sunday, at a park with a recreation center/bathroom access. also, any potluck theme ideas are welcome!

I had something come up at the last minute, so my mexican spiced quinoa salad and I were unable to attend. Waiting eagerly for details of the August gathering!

P.S. Since, as you said, it's likely to be hot, how about a cold food theme? Or a latin/caribbean theme?

Not sure if this will be read in time, but Compassionate Action for Animals is having a vegan picnic-potluck at Minnehaha Falls on Saturday, August 9. More info here, http://www.exploreveg.org/events/vegan-summer-picnic-1
