also, don't forget to bring your own beverage, silverware, and something to eat on. like a plate.

hooray for fall! looking forward to sharing some awesome food with some awesome people.

august 19th potluck

so the august potluck went down last night. about one or two more people involved than last month. (we're getting there...)but everything was tasty, and it was a nice night in the park. we learned that flyers are an effective form of advertising, and more flyers would probably be even more so. also, we learned that you can make a cheese-like product from milkweed. who knew?
no-bake avocado lime pie with fresh raspberries and buckwheat coconut crust, cupcakes with coconut frosting, and some vegans...

august potluck, y'all!

hey, vegans. our next potluck is coming up soon. this one's a little thrown together, so hopefully enough people get the word. mark your calendars for tuesday, august 19th @ 6 pm in loring park. i know it's a little weird having it on a weekday, but we'll see how it goes. we'll be meeting around the picnic area by the community art center building near the playground. everyone is welcome. bring your friends, kids, canine companions, etc., and a vegan dish to share. we're going with a "summer foods" theme. kind of broad, but just think of foods that would pair well with a hot summer night. also, don't forget to bring your own beverage, plate (covered dishes are best for transport purposes, keeping bugs off your food, and bringing home leftovers!), utensils, and maybe something to sit on (although there will be a few picnic tables).

hopefully the weather will be beautiful. looking forward to watching the sunset in the park with some delicious food and (hopefully) a large gathering of friends!

see you...

the july 6 potluck

july 6 turned out to be a very hot day... which i hope is the reason the first potluck ended up totaling only 7 people! at any rate, we got our feet wet learning some of the ins and outs of public potlucks. ideas/things to consider for the future:

1) access to a bathroom - lack of this can make social interactions difficult!
2) activities or games - sometimes food and chatting needs something to break it up a bit
3) better "advertising" - we lost some people through forgetting about our internet communication sources. also, maybe we need a flag to mark our spot in the park?
4) airtight containers are very handy as not just your salad/dish container but also as your "plate"

most of us knew each other already, but we did get a craigslist attendee with ties to the u of m compassionate action for animals. hooray! we like new people. also, we ate some delicious food:

clockwise from top left: sesame-peanut noodle salad, black bean and avocado salsa, fresh fruit salad, cilantro-miso soba noodles with tofu

august is likely to be hotter than july, so we'll hopefully plan one for a cooler sunday, at a park with a recreation center/bathroom access. also, any potluck theme ideas are welcome!
